Two of My Articles Were Published in CAPTIVATING! A Magazine Empowering People with Disabilities

I’m so excited – I had TWO articles published in CAPTIVATING! Magazine!

As a preacher, one of the things that I am most passionate about is making the church fully inclusive for people with disabilities.

I also love to write. I view writing as a natural outgrowth of my call to preach.

I love it when these two passions combine! Captivating Magazine is a NEW magazine that is breaking barriers and empowering people with disabilities. It is published online and distributed through the NFB Newsline, which means it has readers all over the country!

In the January edition you can find my article, “16 Easy Ways the Church Can Be More Accessible,” as well as new piece I wrote about the Voice Dream Reader!

CAPTIVATING! is is a collaborative project created by Social Entrepreneurs, Chelsea Nguyen, CN Vision Image Consulting, and Stephanae McCoy, Bold Blind Beauty. It is a magazine that is empowering people with disabilities and breaking barriers. I feel truly blessed to part of this amazing project. What I like most about CAPTIVATING! is how it emphasizes the fact that people with disabilities can do anything anyone else can do – we just do it a little differently. .

As a writer, I submit a lot of pieces to a lot of different publications. I get a lot of rejections. It’s understandable – rejection is part of the writing process; however, I would be lying if I didn’t tell you those rejections didn’t hurt. Over time, writers get used to rejection and we develop a thicker skin; nevertheless, it still stings just a little bit. That’s part of the reason why, when I saw the proof copy of my article, I was thrilled.

There is just something so validating and truly amazing about seeing a piece that you have loved and labored over presented in a slick and sleek magazine format. There is something truly thrilling about seeing your words on the printed page.

There are so many great writers in this week’s lineup. I’m truly honored to be included with so many amazing people who are breaking down barriers and working to redefine how the world sees disability. January’s issue includes a filmmaker who is legally blind, an amazing sculptor who is also blind, and a woman who doesn’t let the fact that she has no arms stop her from lifting up others!
