Worldwide Search for Models with Disabilities! Led by R. Holland of CAPTIVATING! Magazine

Wow! I’m Leading My First Global Social Media Campaign!

Visit this instagram post to find out more about how you or a friend can apply to be featured on the cover of the March issue of CAPTIVATING! You can also find more information on our blog at the CAPTIVATING! website.

I’m very excited to announce that CAPTIVATING! has asked me to manage their social media campaign to find cover models with disabilities for our March issue!

I’ve been reading and researching a lot about social media lately. In the church, we tend to focus a lot of our social media efforts on Facebook. This makes sense because most of my parishioners are active on Facebook. I know people who are over 80 years old who use Facebook as a way to stay connected to friends and family.

Facebook is a great tool, but it’s important to realize that the younger generation tends to be more active on other social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.

A Great Learning Experience I Can Apply to the Church!

I was honored to be featured on the cover of Bold Blind Beauty. The editor, Steph, has taught me so much about branding!

I’m excited to  apply what I’ve learned in the last few months about social media to this global campaign. Our search has already gotten a great response from people all over the world with all types of disabilities. I’m learning about:

-How to Develop A Global Social Media Campaign

A lot more goes into designing a worldwide social media campaign than meets the eye. I’m excited to try my hand at this one and then apply what I have learned in my local church setting.

Hashtags

We have created a hashtag for our campaign. It is #WeRCaptivating. What hashtag could I create for my local church or for the Disability Ministries Task Force of the Susquehanna Conference?

-Branding

Steph, the creator of Bold Blind Beauty and the editor of CAPTIVATING! is a master when it comes to branding.  As soon as you look at a piece she has created, you know that it belongs to one of her brands. She does this by always using the same color scheme, fonts, and style.

Some things about branding are intuitive. A person with a good sense of branding can just look at something and say, “Yes! That fits with my brand.”

This concept of branding has inspired me to start thinking about how we use branding in church world. How could I help my local church to connect with our greater conference’s brand? How could we develop our own brand for social media? What will the branding for our Disability Ministries Task Force look like?

How to Use Canva to Create Graphics

Canva is a tool for creating social media graphics, posters, and even magazines. I had only tried Canva once before I worked with CAPTIVATING! It hurt my eyes and I quickly moved on to other projects. Then, Steph showed me some of the great things she is doing with Canva.

Steph is also visually impaired and her work inspired me. If Steph can use Canva to create great social media images- so can I!

I have learned that I have to use graphic design tools a little more slowly than most people because it causes me to experience eye pain- However- no pain, no gain!

-How to Make Social Media More Accessible

I’m learning new and exciting ways to create content that people who are both visually impaired and sighted can enjoy!

Cross Promotion

Any successful social media campaign, whether its an advertisement for an Easter Service or an announcement for a magazine, should work seamlessly across all social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Word Press)

Collaboration

It is important to collaborate with and support others working in your field.  Whether we are talking about church world, the non-profit sector, or the disability community, it’s important that we all work together to raise up one another! Working with Micro-influencers and Nano-influencers is a great way to get your message out there. I can’t help but wonder what micro-influencers might be willing to help me to spread the word about my church, my writing (all profits are donated to my church), or Disability Ministries.

In today’s world, most people will view your church’s website before they ever set foot in your building.
