Texts from Mittens by Angie Bailey is Garfield for the modern age!

If my cat had thumbs, this is what he would text me!

My Review:

Hilarious. If my cat had thumbs, this is what he would text me. Texts from Mittens is like Garfield for the modern age. Texts from Mittens: The Friends and Family Edition, includes conversations in the form of text messages between Mittens the cat and his friends and family.

Mittens, like all cats, is wry, witty, self-centered, and has a lot of CAT-titude!

When I was young, I grew up with Garfield and Friends.  Now, instead of Garfield, John, Odie, and Nermal, modern readers have Mittens, Mom, Grandma, Fiona (Mitten’s kitty girlfriend), and Earl (the dog whom Mittens calls #FilthyHound).

The main character is Mittens and the book focuses on how he interacts with his friends and family. I couldn’t stop grinning while I read this book. As I read each exchange between Mittens and his friends, I kept sneaking loving glances at my own feline companion.

I couldn’t stop smiling and sneaking glances at my own feline friend while I read this book!

There is a whole cast of characters in this little book, and conversations between Mittens and his friends range from laugh out loud funny to just plain silly.  Like any book of humor, there are some jokes that I found to be funnier than others. While I loved watching the interaction between Mittens and Earl (whom he calls #FilthyHound) I was not particularly amused by the characters “Stumpy,” and “Drunk Patty.” However, I know every one has a different sense of humor and other readers might enjoy those sections.

My favorite conversations occurred between Mittens and his Mom. If you are a person who is owned by a cat (because all cat lovers know that cats don’t have owners, they have staff) then I am certain you will find a lot to love in the relationship that Mittens and his Mom share.

If my cat had thumbs, this is what he would text me!

Although I didn’t care for some of the “cat nip” humor and the character “Drunk Patty,” fell flat for me, the majority of the book left a smile on my face. As I sat reading, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my own cat had somehow lost his cellphone and that I was reading messages that he might have written. If my cat had thumbs, I’m certain this is what he would text me.

I’ve been a little down lately, and this sweet book of animal humor was the happy pick-me-up I needed. I recommend this book for all animal lovers who are in need of a chuckle.

Note: Thank you, Net Galley, for a free copy of this book! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
