I enjoyed reading the first book in the Pepper Lane Club so much that I researched the author and signed up for her mailing list. The Pepper Lane club is such a fun and happy series. It reminds me of the books I enjoyed when I was much younger, like the Magic Attic Club, American Girl, or even The Baby Sitter’s Club- only for adults. The books center around themes of female friendship. All the books give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

One of my favorite aspects of the series is that it emphasizes the power of female friendship. Each story follows one of the members of a group of female friends as she finds love. While each story can stand on its own, if read in order, the books create a continuous narrative about the beauty and the power of female friendship.

The third book in the series follows Mary as she tries to find love and bounce back after a divorce. Mary is in her late forties and she wonders if she will ever find love again. I was familiar with Mary’s character from the first two books and it was really interesting to read an entire book written from her perspective. The younger members of her group of friends view Mary as very mature and put together, but in reality, Mary feels as if she is falling apart. It was a good reminder that appearances are not always what they seem and that we can never really know what is going on in someone else’s head.

Mary is an empathetic character and the author writes in such a way that the reader really feels Mary’s heartbreak over her divorce. I laughed aloud at some of Mary’s terrible dates and I couldn’t help but smile when I closed the book at the end.

This book is a delightful third installment to the Pepper Lane Club and I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis from Goodreads

Mary Thornton is forty-six and the oldest of her new group of friends, who meet on a regular basis over dinner. She’s recently been through a horrible divorce and declared a hiatus from men. Of course, the women at the dinner club aren’t having any of that, and they convince her to start dating. Mary hasn’t dated in over twenty years and she has no idea what she’s doing. The dates are mostly awful and some are hilarious, but only one makes her heart beat a little faster. There’s only one problem. He’s the father of one of the girls in her club, and she has no idea that Mary went on a date with him.

Six women. Six stories. Six chances of love. One café.
The Pepper Lane series tells the stories of six women, who agree to meet once a month at their local café. They promise to meet no matter what life throws their way, and, as we soon find out, life throws a lot more than any of them expected. Friendships are forged, and deepened, as the women get to know each other. It’s only once a month, but they soon realize how important this little club has become to each of them. They might be an unlikely group of friends, but it takes all types to form a tribe.
