Title: New Year’s Eve

Dear Friend:

You are all fluff and muscle

Asleep in my lap, your steady breathing is my favorite sound

Your heartbeat a soothing rhythm for my aching soul

For you time is only the

Now

And the “Not Now”

What care you for New Years? Or concerts and crowds? Or making resolutions that will soon be shattered?

The couch is warm

The blankets are soft

And we are together.

Dear friend,

This new year

Teach me how to live like you.
