Fiona and the Whale- A romantic whale of a tale! (Book Review & Blog Tour @raresources @HMLynnauthor)

Fiona Whale_final2

My Review:

Fiona and the Whale was definitely not what I was expecting! I was expecting an uplifting romance (which this book most certainly is) but I was not expecting the book to also include important lessons about saving the planet and preserving our environment. It is clear from the author’s writing that protecting nature is an issue about which she is very passionate. This book inspired me to be more cognizant regarding my use of disposable plastic. I don’t know if I will ever be able to “dive all in,” like Fiona, but I can’t stop thinking about her story.

I love animals and I love the story of Fiona and Martha the whale. This was a genuinely sweet love story with a really unique twist.

I enjoyed watching Fiona learn and grow as a character. I was also on the edge of my seat to see how she would reconcile her newfound convictions with her job. The ending is both creative and satisfying. I just wish that there would have been more of Martha the whale in this book. Martha herself gets very little “screen time,” although she is the impetus for much of the action.

The author clearly states in her many author’s notes (some of which I feel really  detracted from the flow of the story)  that her goal was to encourage people to be more conscious of their waste production. The author has achieved this goal for me at least. She has definitely inspired this reader to think twice before she buys more plastic bottles or forgets to recycle.

Fiona and the Whale really is a whale of a tale with a huge heart. If you’re looking for romance with a unique twist, I encourage you to curl up with Fiona and the Whale

From the Back Cover of Fiona and the Whale

With her personal life on the rocks, it’s going to take a whale sized miracle to keep her afloat.

Event planner Fiona Reeves did not have her husband’s sudden departure on her schedule. However, she’s certain that it’s only a hiccup and he’ll be back in no time, begging for forgiveness. Fortunately there’s a distraction of mammoth proportions swimming in the River Thames.

Absorbed by the story of Martha the sperm whale, Fiona attempts to carry on life as usual as she awaits her husband’s return. However, nothing can prepare her for the dramatic turn of events that throws her life into ever greater turmoil. The road ahead has many paths and for Fiona it’s time to sink or swim.

Fiona and the Whale is a poignant and often hilarious contemporary fiction novel. If you enjoy topical tales, second chances and a little bit of romance, you’ll love this new book from the Kindle Storyteller Award Winner, Hannah Lynn.
